Excerpt 1 from 'Sell Now! The End of the Housing Bubble'

The first in a series of short excerpts from 'Sell Now! The End of the Housing Bubble' by John Talbott: (1) Is this a short soundbite or a longer conversation? (2) How conflicted are your information providers on this topic?

Excerpt 1 from Sell Now! The End of the Housing Bubble:
"In writing Sell Now! The End of the Housing Bubble, I have taken the time necessary to describe in detail the various theories of whether there is a housing bubble or not. This simply cannot be accomplished in a two-minute appearance on television or conveyed in three paragraphs of a magazine article. The good news is that it is a really fascinating story to tell. The reader who is already familiar with the arguments presented will appreciate seeing which theories actually can withstand tough scrutiny and which do a poor job of explaining the recent high home prices.

....The chief economist of the National Association of Realtors recently published a book entitled Are You Missing the Real Estate Boom? Why Home Values and Other Real Estate Investments Will Climb Through the End of the Decade. Regardless of whether the author honestly believes this thesis or not, it seems inappropriate for someone with such an obvious conflict of interest to opine publicly as to the reasonableness of home prices. Turning to the NAR's chief economist for advice on housing prices is like asking the devil whether he likes warm climates. You would do much better to seek the opinions of people not so directly involved in the issue you are trying to explore." (John Talbott, author of Sell Now! The End of the Housing Bubble, p. 22)
