You might be asking yourself, "what is Smuin?" Michael Smuin is the former head of the San Francisco Ballet and started his own company, Smuin Ballet in 1994. He combines ballet with many other dance styles such as jazz, tap, and tango, and they dance to modern music including Sinatra, the Beatles and K.D. Lang. His mission is to entertain the audience, and he's willing to use his vast dance vocabulary in any number of ways to guarantee that no one is ever bored--even guys are going to have a great time!

In Program two, you'll find none other than the 2005 Edition of everyone's favorite, "The Christmas Ballet." Whether a classical Christmas is your style or a more cool holiday version is your cup of tea, you'll find it in this beloved ballet. It's the perfect present for a friend, family or that special someone (including yourself!) because whether it's your first time or your fifth, there are always fun new surprises for everyone. And with beloved favorites set to traditional Hanukkah and Christmas music (plus a tap dancing Frosty!), this is a definite treat to be savored by anyone and everyone, at any age.
Kirk Peterson returns in Program three as Smuin Ballet presents "Reinin' in the Hurricane," set to the music of country western's greatest--Gene Autry, K.D. Lang and Johnny Cash, among others. Featured in this program is Michael's second world premiere of the season, "Symphony of Psalms." The ballet will be set to Stravinsky's score of the same name, following its journey from a Psalm of lament, to one of hope to a third movement of unreserved joy. "The Blue Angel" is also back…where enslaved by a tawdry passion, a man gains his desire…but squanders his soul!
